The Ice Cream Girls Book Review Again

Book: The Ice Cream Girls
Author: Dorothy Koomson
Good reads Rating: 5*

Ok so this is the third time I’ve read the book and second time I have reviewed it.

The Ice Cream Girls is incredible. I’m not a massive fan of multiple characters narrating a book, or back and forth with memories but it’s brilliant in the book

What I love about the book is that it brings out and quashed stereotypes. Not all white people are set free and not all black people are sent to jail.

There is something special about this book. It covers topics that should be more widely covered in schools such as underage sex, illegal relationships between students and teachers, abuse, lies, depression and murder.

I’ve read books with domestic violence in it before but with the Ice Cream Girls is so much more than just adults in the situation. It’s under age girls with a man in an authority position.

That’s one of the hardest things with the book and why I believe its so well written is because I’ve never seen anyone write about the relationships between someone in a position of authority and trust take advantage of being with impressionable teenagers before.

Dorothy Koomson had done a Q&A at the end of the book where she talked about how she researched each aspect of the book. From the relationship, domestic violence and prison diary’s.
