Blogmas Day 7 Book Talk: GoodReads Rating… and How I Rate

Welcome to day 7 of blogmas.  Today is all about how I rate books on Goodreads and my pet peeves when people rate books

I feel that sometimes I'm way to generous when it comes to rating a book then other times not so much. Some popular books I find are the ones that I rate harshly because they are so hyped up where as not so popular books and even authors I've tended to rate really well.

  • I Hate HATE .____
I hate when people put in the .(dot) then 25, 50, 75, or what ever random fucking number you feel like. If it's under whatever.5 round it down. If it's over whatever.5 round it up.

  • Popular Books
Books that people on the book tube part of YouTube completely rave about are normally ones that I tend to give lower ratings on. For many reasons but the main is because it's not as good as the person is making out to be

How I Rate Books I've Read

Each book I read I'll always start it off by giving it a five star rating even before I've read a word. Then depending on various things that I've blogged about Before depends on wether it stays like that. The biggest ones are obviously story line/plot, characters.

One of the other things is popular Books. I've had a massive thing where popular books haven't lived up to the hype.

Blogmas Day 6 I'm So Grinch About This

Welcome to day  6 of blogmas. Today is a Top 5 Wednesday all about bookish things are grinch about. This can be stuff about covers, dumb tropes,

  • When Bookmarks Go All Flimsy
I love bookmarks. Well now anyways. But I have this one that I really love but it's gone all flimsy at the top where it sticks out the top of the book

  • Dog Ear Corners
I used to dog ear the corners of my books when I was younger.  Now I hate looking at the marks that they made.

  • Obvious Book/Movie Similarities
I'm not talking about when a book is made into a movie but when books and moves are completely different time frame and they are so similar
I think the biggest culprit of this is Beneath the Glitter by Elle and Blair Fowler and the movie Material Girls with the Duff sisters.

  • Book Hauls
Everyone seems to do monthly book Hauls.  I know they get books sent to them by publishers and what have you, but seriously when they get to be more then you posting a review then it annoys me.

  • When People Say Twilight is Better Then Harry Potter
Everything about that is just wrong. It's Harry Potter all the way.

Blogmas Day 5 Places I'd Like To Visit From Books

Welcome to day 5 of Blogmas.  Today is a Top 10 Tuesday inspired post all about places I'd Like To Visit.
*With any Top Ten Tuesday I'll always say that it's inspired by it because I won't always do them in order, and sometimes they'll be as Book talk*

  • Brighton Beach Book: The Ice Cream Girls
Ok so Brighton beach is one that I've visited millions of times while I lived in England, but it's always a place that I would love to go back to.

Hogsmeade
I would love to go there just to look around the shops

Alaska
Book: Looking For Alaska

This is because of the book by John Green. Even though Alaska is a person it's made me want to go to Alaska the State more and more.

Diagon Alley
Just like hogsmeade it's one of those places that would be awesome to see the shops and what happens

New York City
Book: The Last Song

New York has always been one of those places that I've wanted to visit.

Day 4 Blogmas Book Talk: Disconnecting From Books While Reading πŸ“– Them

Welcome o day 4 of blogmas

Sometimes I find myself reading a book that I didn't enjoy but couldn't put down but slowly as I read the book I find myself disconnecting from the books for various reasons.

The characters
I am someone that likes to be able to see characters off the page just as much as on the page. 99.9% of Harry Potter characters I saw off the pages of the books, and when the movies started coming out they were what I imagined them to be. But there are books that I feels so disconnected from the characters that when and if they are made into movies it's disheartening. It's a big factor of me disconnecting with the book.

The Size Of The Book
I understand that book series get longer as the series goes on, but when it's ridiculous I loose interest. Non more so then Twilight or The Lunar Chronicles. I felt that they became way to long.

The Plot Line
The Lunar Chronicles are biggest culprits of it. In Scarlet I got confused by the jumping around from Scarlet and Cinder but then add Cress into the mix and I was done. I couldn't take the jumping around and the boring plot line.
Also another plot line that I felt disconnected to was Willems story in Just One Year. That confused the shit outta me.

When I'm Reading… And Finishing Other Books
For me it's hard reading two books at once. I'll do it occasionally but it's hard, so when I am reading more then a book while reading a book that I had planned to read

If It Takes Longer Then A Month To Finish
I'm not a fast reader by any stretch of the imagination, but if a book takes longer then a month for me to read then I am sure I'm getting disconnected. Not 100% but I'm pretty close.

When I Realize Enough Is Enough
I hate DNFing books πŸ“š. It's a horrible feeling. But there are books that I just can't finish reading because I've had enough of them. Beneath The Glitter by Elle and Blair Fowler was a book that I didn't intend not to finish I was 100 pages from the end, and not picking it up. It's not a massive book but after a while enough time passed and I want reading it. I can normally push myself through a book that I'm not enjoying but sometimes Enough really is Enough.

Books That I Have Disconnected With While Reading
  • Cress
    • Marissa Meyer
With Cress for me it was going no where. The storyline did it for me as well as the characters and chapters forever changing

  • Beneath The Glitter
    • Elle and Blair Fowler
With BTG, I felt that it was way to obvious what was going to happen, and as if I'd seen it before.  It wasn't until I saw Material Girls with the Duff sisters that I understood why.

  • Just One Year
    • Gayle Forman
With Just One Year, I didn't like the storyline, which is really awful because I loved the first book in the duology

  • Breaking Dawn
    • Stephanie Meyer
Breaking Dawn was horrible. It just made the whole series brought right down even more so then the previous books

Day 3 Blogmas Most Emotional Deaths

Hey, Welcome to Day 3 of Blogmas  so this post is about the most emotional death for me in books.

Fred Weasley
Harry Potter
JK Rowing
I'm such a sucker for twins. I've always wanted a set of twins and when reading the Harry Potter Books I loved Fred and George. For me Fred and George are my favorite characters not only in Harry Potter but male characters of all time and both male and female characters of all time. So when Fred died.  A little part of me died. And the fact that George couldn't do a Patronus after Fred died. My heart.

Adele
My Best Friends Girl
Dorothy Koomson
I really liked Adele's character in the book, even though she did something bad she did what was best for Tegan in the long run. Her death is one that really hit me because it meant that Tegan would grow up with out a mum.

Leo
Goodnight, Beautiful
Dorothy Koomson
Because of the way that Leo came about his death is so sad 😭.

Mia's Family
If I Stay
Gayle Forman

O don't know if it's because of Gayle's writing or what but i really liked Mia and her family.

Sirius Black
Harry Potter
JK Rowling
I felt really bad for Harry when Sirius died. He finally had someone in his life that meant a great deal to him, that knew his parents and one of the few people that actually didn't want to kill Harry.

Lupin and Tonks
Harry Potter
JK Rowling

For got me this just brings around the fact that two children had to grow up without their parents because of Voldemort.  Which sucks.
