May Wrap Up

Welcome to Mays Wrap Up

If I am being completely honest I’ve struggled this month. While I’ve read two books there have been plenty that I’ve started and just not finished. I’m

The Great Gatsby
F Scott Fitzgerald
- 22 books completed
- 14 books ahead of schedule
- 22 out of 24
- 94%

I don’t know what it is about The Great Gatsby that I enjoyed so much because I’m not a massive classic reader. But I loved it. And it’s the only classic that I’ll happily read over and over again.

My Best Friends Girl
Dorothy Koomson
- 23 Books Complete
- 14 books ahead of schedule
- 23 out of 24 books complete
- 92% Complete

My Best Friends Girl has always been a favourite of mine since I first ever read it back in 2007. At the time it was on Richard and Judy’s Summer Reads. Though it had been out for a year already, and it was one of two Dorothy Koomson books I picked up (yes I love the other just as much), the book has a very special place in my heart, and things like that really don’t bother me when I read a book. If it’s good. It’s good.

Vanishing Acts

- 24 books Completed
- 15 books ahead of schedule
- 100% Complete

Vanishing Acts Book Review

Book: Vanishing Acts
Author: Jodi Pilcoult
Start Reading Date: 23rd April 2018
End Reading Date: 25th May 2018
Good reads Rating: 2*

It’s been well over a year since I’ve read a Jodi Pilcoult book, and I’ve ever only read My Sisters Keeper, which I ended up giving away. So any way. In March I picked up some of her books because they were only $2, at the goodwill book store.

Delia Hopkins was raised in rural New Hampshire by her widowed father Andrew, she now has a young daughter, a fiancée, and her own search and rescue dog, who helps her find missing people. As Delia plans her weddings she is getting flashback of a life she can’t recall until a police officer knocks on her door and tells her the truth. Over the course of the book Delia faces some harsh realities and must find out who she really is.

I decided on reading Vanishing Acts. I liked the whole concept of the book because of the blurb but felt as if it was a slow start. I did get in to a bit of a reading slump while reading the book that I read another.

I am someone who either loves or hates multiple people narrating a book and this is one of those that I hate. It has way to many people narrating it that it gets way to complicated and confusing.

This book is seriously all over the place. The four ‘main’ characters have a chapter each, and then it moves on to the next part of the book, But I have found that within the chapters the person who’s chapter it is I can’t keep up with them because they are all over the place.

The concept of the book is great but I felt bored. I read other books while reading this book and just felt bored. It’s the only way I can explain it.

It’s the 24th book I have read this year which makes me complete my 24 books of the year.

Most Overrated Books T5W

Welcome to another T5W of our choice. This week is all about books that I think are the most over rated.

I am a very visual person and when it comes to reading a book I’d like to see characters jump out at me. And I didn’t with any of these books

- The Fault in our Stars
Its a good book so get me wrong but honestly it’s such an overrated book. So many people loved the book but I felt let down by how good it actually is. I like to be able to read a book and think, yeah I’d read that again. But I didn’t With TFIOS.

- To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
I don’t whatbit was about this book but I was so disappointed with it. I liked the fact that it was about a character that is part Chinese, Korean or what ever but that’s about it. There were some bad stereotypes in the book.

- Animal Farm
All I’ve heard about the book is how good it is. And when I read it I felt so overwhelmed and that it’s not as good as it was portrayed to be

- Paper Towns
I don’t have a problem with John Green as a writer but I felt let down by the book it reminded me of Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Mattson yet not as good

*all opinions are my own. If you liked any of these books that’s great. But for me they were really overrated*

Books I DNF’d || Top 5 Wednesday

Welcome to a Top 5 Wednesday

It’s a pretty short post because all the books on this list I have DNF’d because I couldn’t get into them when I read them.

I do plan on at some point to read them. But when I did it just wasn’t working out.

This months T5W is all freebie, so I could choose what previous post to do.
- Just Listen
- Sense and Sensibility
- Jane Eyre
- Lola and The Boy Next Door

Books I Disliked/Hated But Glad I Read || Top Ten Tuesday

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday. Lately I’ve found Top Ten Tuesday a lot easier than T5W, (though May’s T5W is kinda easy) this weeks TTT, is all about books we disliked but glad we’ve read.

- To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
I want a major fan of the book. I felt that it lacked something. I didn’t like the love story between Lara Jean and Peter. But I’m glad that I read it.

- Paper Towns
Out of his three books that I’ve read I found this one my least favorite. A lot of people hype John Green up because of TFIOS, which is a really good book, but Paper Towns wasn’t.

- The Notebook
The Notebook for me was a cute love story but i didn’t like it at all. It was way to cute and way to unrealistic. Ok I know that husband and wife’s die together all the time but with Allie and Noah’s story you knew it would happen.

- Thirteen Reasons Why
When I first read it it was ok. Just ok. It covered a great topic of suicide (it’s not a great topic but a good one to cover because I’ve never seen another book like that). When I reread it I was disappointed that I couldn’t even finish the book. I realized that for me it felt forced.

- Twilight Saga
Oh Stephanie Meyer (or how ever you spell her name). It could have been so great. The first book was decent enough to the point I actually like the book. (I know spoiler.) but it felt as if the rest of the Saga let the first book down. I get the deal she wanted four books named after night time blah blah blah. By the time I got to the forth book I was like "what the hell has happened".

- Fan Girl
After reading it the second time is glad that I’ve read it multiple times. While I liked it a little more the second time. There wasn’t that much change and it’s still on the side of dislike. I felt no connection to the characters.

- Eat, Pray, Love
I’m glad that I read a book I didn’t like and was way out of my comfort zone.

Authors I’ll Always Buy

It’s funny because for the longest time I wouldn’t say I’d automatically buy an author. Because I always go through faze’s where I really like an author and then BAM 💥 I just don’t like them as much or I’ve out grown them.

- Dorothy Koomson
If I was still in England or amazon prime here in Canada 🇨🇦 actually did all her books without crazy shipping fees I’d totally have all her books by now. She is definitely an author who I always check out for amazon prime in Canada.

- Nicholas Sparks
I wouldn’t say he’s an auto buy author but if I find any of his books on sale, in the big bookstore or in Goodwill I’ll pick his books up.

For Every Book I Dislike There Is One I Love

Welcome. I have no idea how to start this post. All it is, is for every book I dislike, there is one that I like.

Hated; To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
Loved; My Life Next Door
I mean for me TATBILB was so unrealistic not that my Life Next Door was any better but at least it was believable. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before could have been so well written because of the main character being Asian. I found Lara Jean to be selfish. Were as Samantha had compassion.

Hated: Paper Towns
Loved; Since You’ve Been Gone
The two books are very similar but for some reason I connected better with the characters in SYBG.

Hated: Animal Farm
Loved; The Great Gatsby
I’m not a massive classic book reader but I enjoyed Gatsby a lot more.

Hated: Just One Year
Loved Just One Day
The two books could have been perfect in my eyes. I loved the first book was so so let down by the second that I couldn’t finish it.
