First Thoughts
Just like with cinder it’s been a while since I’ve read the book,
While Reading
I can’t really tell if Wolf I’d a human, or an actual wolf or what he is
While I’m not opposed to having multiple people in a book, it’s not my favourite thing in the world. I can understand why there are multiple characters but sometimes it really confuses me
I want to like Scarlet but I just don’t at the moment. I did like her in the beginning when she stood up for Cinder, but since her and wolf left the train I feel like something is completely off with her.
I know stories are supposed to flow well, but with Scarlet, I’m finding that it’s not flowing that great. I don’t know if it’s because of Scarlet’s stubbornness. Because people her telling her things and she doesn’t want to believe them, then suddenly she realizes that something did happen
I don’t know if it’s because Scarlet is her own book, and we’ve already been introduced to Cinder and Kai and the characters from cinder but I find those chapters a little more do able and easier to read and wanting more of them. But I know if that had happened I’d want to know more about Scarlet.
I know it’s mainly Scarlets book, but you have to talk about Cinder & Kai as they also feature in the book, as well as the other characters from book 1.
So let’s start with Cinder, I don’t like how she’s become more manipulative in a way over this book, I know she is getting her powers back from when she was a Lunar, but I would’ve liked to have seen her fight them off and not use them a little more
Kai, bless him he’s so adorable and naive. I know he wants to do right by his people, but he should also do what’s right for him and just admit he is love with Cinder.
Conclusion
This was such a difficult book to review because while I liked some of it, including some of Scarlet’s bits there were other bits I hated, and felt could’ve been better.
There are parts of the book that I wanted to skip over because I was so bored of the plot line.
The reason it’s only 3* is because of how all over the place I felt Scarlet as a person was. I understand she has a close relationship with her grandmother but I felt that she was very hot and cold with everyone else and not very understanding of their situation. Even when they were helping her out. She’s a very typical teenager in some ways, but I feel that you could say that about Cinder, but I feel Cinder is trying to do right.
At first I actually thought I would have finished it sooner because I read the first half of the book really quickly. But it took about a week longer. I felt that for most of the middle was really poor, and then when it gets near the end it picks up again.
