First Thoughts
I haven’t read the book in a while. The way I have my shelfs set up most of the stand alone books are on the top shelf at the back hidden by other books. The top shelf is two books deep.
Secondly I can’t remember if I’ve done a book review on Hate List or not.
While Reading
It’s definitely a hard read even though I’ve read it before. I know it’s just a YA book but the themes in the book for me are such an American themes with school shootings.
In a small way I really feel sorry for Nick. Not because he shot everyone, but for the fact that he was bullied by the popular kids. Bullying can have a lasting effect on people, and while I’m not condoning what he did, I can understand in some way why he went so far.
Conclusion
I think that this is a good book for everyone to read to see the effects of bullying. While not all people who’ve been bullied go out and shot at their schools, there are that small minority that will. It’s also a good book to see forgiveness that people can show even though in your mind it can be hard to do.
What I liked the most actually is what I just mentioned about how people can forgive in situations like what occurred in the book. And it’s a shame that it took something like a school shooting for people to realize that someone is crying out for help and the only way is for this to happen, but forgive the person who in most people’s mind wrote their names down on a list is amazing.
