Welcome
To Book Talk. I don't know how many I'll do. Book talk is basically an idea that I came up with where I talk about a book, my feelings on different kinds of books etc.
This one is on classic books.
Back in 2015, I wanted to start reading more classic books. So when I saw a big collection of classic books that were 3 for $10, I picked up three books. The Great Gatsby, Animal Farm and Dr Jeckall and Mr Hyde. I didn't read any of them right away, but since getting them I have read two out of the three and loved one more then the other. So when I went into the bookstore that is near me now a year after picking up those three books and saw that the classics were 3 for $10 again I picked up theee more books. Sense and sensibility, Jane Eyre and Great Expectations, I thought great I could get back into trying to read classics again, and ones that are older, and people have raved about. Yeah that didn't work out to well for me. I struggled with Animal Farm when I read it. I know I'm going to struggle through these books. And I did to an extent. Sense and Sensibility just got so complicated for me that I couldn't finish it. It hurt my brain to read. I was so confused while I read what little I have read of it before putting it down. And at the moment I am reading Jane Eyre and struggling. I have no idea how I am going to finish it if I do ever finish it. I have come to the realization that it's on not to like books that everyone else likes no matter what genre they are because not everyone has the same taste in books. And that just because I don't like a book or a curtain genre doesn't make me a bad person. It means that I have a different opinion on that book.
For me personally I found it hard because of the language used in the books.
In sense and sensibility I found it confusing and I wasn't sure on who was who, and the storyline got me all muddled up.
I didn't enjoy Animal Farm either. It was the book that started it all off when I saw the 3 for $10, because it was hyped up by a YouTuber and it was so confusing.
The one book that I did enjoy was The Great Gatsby. And I think that's only because I have seen the movie and liked the movie.
With all that being said I wouldn't discount reading another classic, but I'll know for the future that it'll take me a while.
Lauren
