September Wrap Up

Books Read: 3 books
Book Challenge Complete %
Am I Ahead? And By How Many Books: 9 books ahead and I’ve finished my reading challenge for the year.

- Matched

Matched is one of my favourite books in a genre that I’m not really a massive fan of.

- Crossed
Crossed for me is ok, it’s not great. It’s better then I remember it being the first time, but within the last 50-100 pages I really felt distant from the book and was a struggle to read.

- The Great Gatsby
I struggled with reading Crossed that I decided o needed something to break it up for a while. I absolutely love The Great Gatsby so it was a no brainer to read.

Biggest Book Hangovers

So a book hangover is when you’ve read a really good book (a good night out) but now you’ve got a really bad hangover (didn’t want the book to finish)

- Dorothy Koomson
Ok so I know she is an author, but every book I’ve read by her I just didn’t want it to end. With her books because they are stand alone books (which are sometimes better then series) I find myself wanting her to revisit some of those characters because I want to know where they are now. What they are doing, feeling, I just wanna know.

- The Devil Wears Prada
I don’t know why I loved this book so much. I think it’s got something to do with the fact it was the first book I remember reading that wasn’t Harry Potter or a book that was considered a children’s book/young teenager book.

- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

HP and the Deathly Hallows gives me such big hangover because it’s the last book in the series. Before you always had another book to read. But when it came to the Deathly Hallows there isn’t another book the the series. Sure you could read The Cursed Child or Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. But for me the first seven books are the ones.

- The Great Gatsby
For a book to keep me interested after seeing the movie and not particularly like the genre it’s in is brilliant. It’s not a book that leaves me wanting to know more about any of the characters but one that I felt as if I knew them in some way.

August Wrap Up

Books Read: 3 Books
Book Challenge Complete % 27 books read. 90% complete
Am I Ahead? And By How Many Books: Yes and by 8 books

Welcome to August’s wrap up, as each month ends I can’t believe it’s over. It’s gone so quickly and I always think the summer months go super quickly. So it’s goodbye to another August.

- Me Before You
Possibly one of the worst books I’ve read in a while. Cheesey, predictable, not well written and I wanted to scream at every point. It’s one of those books that people rush to because its being made into a movie.

- Marshmallows For Breakfast
Ok so I didn’t realize that I already read the book earlier in the year so it’s on my list twice. It doesn’t matter though because it’s such a beautiful book

- Girl A
So I wasn’t going to add Girl A to my overall all Book Challenge, but I re read Marshmallows For Breakfast a second time by accident and had it put on my list as a re read,

Update
- Matched
So I’ve not quite finished Matched, but I wanted to put an update at the end of the wrap up. I have about 60/70 pages left to read.

Favourite Books With Multiple POV’s

For me personally I am not a massive fan of POV’s in books. I find the more people you have narrating a book, the more difficult it becomes to read and to understand what’s happening or happened

The Brighton Mermaid
Though the book is mainly told from Nell’s perspective, there are a few parts where it’s told from the past or by someone else. Dorothy Koomson has done it really well

The Ice Cream Girls
There is never enough praise for The Ice Cream Girls that I can give. As someone who isn’t a massive fan of multiple POV’s there is something about this book that makes it so special. The POV’s in this is in 4 parts. Poppy and Serena as teenagers when everything happened and them as adults 17 years later. It flows really well

Goodnight, Beautiful
Though it’s mainly told by Nova, the chapters that Stephanie has are just heartbreaking

Reconstructing Amelia
What I like about this books POV’s is that it’s both moving forward and backwards in Kate’s life as she tries to figure out what happened to Amelia and moving on with her own life.

Characters I’d Love To Be BFF’s With

This weeks TTT is all about characters I’d love to be BFFs with.  Also a day late

Ginny Weasley
Ginny has been one of my favourite females in books since the Harry Potter books came out. I love how she stands out in a big family

Kamryn
All that Kamryn has gone through with Adele and Nate and still loving Tegan and wanting what’s best for her

Stephanie (Goodnight, Beautiful)
I think Stephanie needs a friend that she can rely on. I think that everyone needs someone that they can rely on in any situation, someone that isn’t a family member or partner and Stephanie doesn’t have that person in her life.

Nell (The Brighton Mermaid 🧜‍♀️)
I love how Nell is determined to get justice for her friend.

Emily (The Devil Wears Prada)
Emily is one of those characters that I read about and just loved, and even wanted to be like. I like how she is one of those people who isn’t afraid to admit that she idolizes Miranda, that she loves her job, or to tell you how it is

Poppy (The Ice Cream Girls)
I think Poppy needs someone to look out for her, before and after prison. She isn’t as close to her siblings as Serena is because of the age difference

Lavender (Harry Potter)
I don’t know what it is about Lavender that I liked on the later Harry Potter books but I really liked her.

Luna (Harry Potter)
I think Luna is one of those characters that brings out the crazy in you. She would bring out the randomness of any situation.

Me Before You || JoJo Moyes || Book Review

Book: Me Before You
Author: JoJo Moyes
Pages: 369
Publisher: Penguin
Publish Date: July 30th 2013
Start Reading Date: July 20th 2019
End Reading Date: August 7th 2019
My Goodreads Rating: 2*

I picked the book up, and wasn’t planned on reading it so soon, but I decided to because I couldn’t get into the other books. Going into the book I am hoping that it is as good as people say it is.

70 Pages In
I am a bit 50:50 on the book so far.

150ish Pages in
I’m still 50:50 about the book. There are some parts where I’m like ‘This is an amazing book’ and other parts I’m thinking ‘What am I Reading’. I don’t have the urge to keep picking it up, and when I do I don’t mind reading one or two pages at a time.

200 pages in
Now that I am pretty far into the story, it’s not the best book I’ve read. It’s pretty much all over the place,

I really am struggling while reading the book. I can’t deal with the randomness of the book. How can a Book this bad have so many people loving it. I’m just hoping it gets better.

I don’t even know what page I am on, how anyone thinks that this books is a good love story is beyond me. It’s cheesy, predictable and plain rubbish.

I saw a good review on the book and in paraphrasing it ‘Has Anyone noticed the message of the book is Disabled life isn’t worth living’ and I couldn’t agree more.

I feel as if it’s just a cheesy love story with extra cheese for good measure, and this is coming from someone who loves a good cheesy romance book.

By the time I finished it I lost all will to live. I gave it a 2* just because there where parts that were really cute and sweet, but it was confusing when they would talk and it seemed like someone else was in the conversation but wasn’t really.

The fact that Will wanted to die was predictable and what would have been more predictable is if he actually lived. It was also predictable that Louisa would go to Paris, and that Will would have left her money that would allow her to go and study and move out, just as much as her normal un jealous boyfriend would become jealous of the person Louisa would work for.

The only person I actually liked was Will, and is the main reason why I rated the book 2*, after his accident he knows that he wants to die and no one will listen to him, it’s almost as if he doesn’t have a choice or voice in his own life anymore yet he can clearly think and talk,

Have I Ever Avoided A Book Because Of The Content or Author?

The simple answer is yes.

I avoided reading Breaking Dawn and Eclipse for so long. While there are flaws in all four books I actually like the first Twilight book and when I read New Moon I struggled that I didn’t want to read the last two books Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

Also with the movies being so popular as well (not as much as Harry Potter) but still popular I didn’t want to read them.

At the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018, I actually read the whole series. Including the two books I was avoiding and while I am glad I avoided them for so long I am glad I read them.

It’s easy to say “if you didn’t like them just sell them or get rid of them” but they have more memories attached to them then them being just the Twilight books.

I also have The Host, which is written by the same author as Twilight. I’ve had it for years but just haven’t read it because of how much I disliked most of the twilight Saga.

I think it’s ok to not avoid books by authors.

I used to have this thing where when I read a really good book by an author I would have to get all of their books, but the books are nowhere near as good as that book that I tend to avoid them. The only case where this hasn’t happened is with Harry Potter and with Dorothy Koomson books.
