Favourite Books From The Last 10 Years

So this is actually 11 books but it’s over 10 years. I did 2008-2018 because I don’t have any books that have been released this year.

Something that did confuse me is that of the Matched Trilogy. That Books 2 and 3, so Crossed and Reached were published out of order. Reached was first in November 2012. And then Crossed was in March 2013.

The Brighton Mermaid (2018)

Harry Potter Wand Collection (2017)

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (2016)

All I Know Now (2015)

The Story Of Chandon Rose (2014)

Girl A (2013)

My Life Next Door (2012)

The Help (2011)

The Ice Cream Girls (2010)

Hate List (2009)

Goodnight, Beautiful (2008)

How Cruel Is My Makeup

So I saw this as a video ages ago. And this has just been a post in my phone and just haven’t posted it.

Over the years I have found that my makeup routine has changed a lot. I don’t wear as much as I used to and when I do it’s very minimal. I know I should be better with what I buy and it being cruelty free or vegan but I have found a happy balance in my routine.

Real Techniques
Cruelty free
I’ve always known that they have been cruelty free. I have quite a few brushes. I have the three basic sets that they came out with forever ago, when it was just Sam’s name in the brushes. You know the first three that came out in the cases. I also use the sponge and have a single lip brush.

I find that I used my foundation brush and buffing brush a lot more than any other brush.

Vaseline
Not Cruelty free
Vaseline Problem Skin Therapy

I have only started using Vaseline within the last year. I got it because it was cheaper then what I normally get and a bigger bottle. I kinda like it when I first got it but as I’m near the end it has definitely changed in consistency

Essence
Essence is a newer make up that I wear and it’s 100% cruelty free. I love there mascara and eye liner but have found that the 2in1 really not that great.

Essence mascara

Essence 2in1 Eye Liner
Essence Eye Pencil

Urban Decay
Cruelty free
Urban Decay Naked 3
I rarely use my naked 3 pallet because I have super sensitive eyes, and my eyes always look like I’ve been punched in the face within hours of putting it on. Or any eye shadow for that matter.

Rimmel London
Not Cruelty free
I know it’s not cruelty free but I love Rimmel London’s makeup and I have done ever since I’ve started wearing makeup when I was about 14/15.

Forced Myself To Read… Kinda

For me when a book really isn’t cutting it while I am reading it I find it hard to carry on reading. I hate to DNF books but sometimes it’s the only way

- Just One Year
I was so disappointed with the book that I couldn’t even finish it. I really liked Willem in the first book, he had an air of mystery around him

- Sense and Sensibility
I tried so hard to read the book on what feels like a million times over but it felt like I couldn’t even tell you what I read was about. Even looking at the synopsis on Wikipedia makes no sense at all.

- Jane Eyre
I felt so disappointed while reading Jane Eyre. I got so confused by it so easily that I couldn’t carry on with reading it.

- Vanishing Acts
I got pretty far into the book but after a while I was so confused by it all.

- City of Bones
City of Bones I had a hard time getting into. I felt really confused. At some point I will get back into it. But when I have no idea.

Bookish Things I’ve Changed My Mind About

This was supposed to be a Top 5 Wednesday but I am having such a bad time at actually posting on a Wednesday

- There Are Good Books in Genres I Don’t Like
My taste in books is varied and I couldn’t tell you my favourite genre but I know I struggle with reading ‘classic’ books. What I’ve learned though is that there are books in those genres I don’t necessarily like that I love. One of my favourite books is The Great Gatsby, which is of course in a genre I don’t particularly got along with that well.

- That All Recommenced Books Are Great
There Not. It’s actually my biggest book pet peeve when lots of book reviews all say very similar things about the book. I wonder if they weren’t paid for a good review if they actually believed it was a good book. I don’t feel the need to rush out and get the books right away.

- That I Have To Always Buy New & Full Price
I love bookstores I really do, but I also love bookstores that sell books at a cheaper price. I am honestly not fussed about when I get a book anymore or if I pay full price for it or if I get it at a thrift store. Books in Canada are really expensive, and then you have to add tax on top of that. Let me put it like this, for my birthday in 2018, I went to the goodwill book store, they were having a really good sale where everything was half price. I spent $17 on 9 books. 7 of those books were $2, and the other two were $1.50, that price is still a hell of a lot cheaper that the full price of just one book. Most of the books retail between $27-$33 before tax.

Also recently I got books 1-4 of the Mortal Instruments series for $3, (75 cents a book) regular price was $54.47 which is insane.

I love the fact that I don’t have to pay full price for a book anymore.

- That I Don’t Need All The Books. NOW.
I have a bad habit of wanting all the books but my favourite author right now. But I’ve learned that it’s ok for me not to have them right now because at some point I’ll get them.

Forced Myself To Read… The Bad Books

I love reading. I always have. There was a time when I’d rather go out and have fun but deep down I am a book nerd and love reading. These are the books that I forced myself to read.

- To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
After reading a few of the chapters I knew the book wouldn’t be great. I don’t know if it’s because I am growing out of reading YA books, or if it’s a bad book. And I’m going towards a bad book because I love reading other YA books

- The Notebook
I mean I could say I was disappointed by the book but really I wasn’t. I forced myself to read the book to see if it was any better than the movie, because movies always changes things from the books and I hated the book.

- Eclipse and Breaking Dawn
I can’t even go into an explanation of why I hated reading these books. It took me forever to actually read them. I had this thing where I could get through the first two books, but read the last two was a push and then I did and I hated it.

- Thirteen Reasons Why
I read the book twice and both times I forced myself to read it. After the second time I knew it was time to let it go.

- The Last Song
* Nicholas Sparks
I have such a love hate relationship when it comes to Nicholas Sparks books. I either love them and they are some of my favourite books. Or hate them. He has a whole long list of books and honestly I have a lot of them and by far the last song and The Notebook are awful

Mother Figure

Molly Weasley
Who wouldn’t love a mother like Molly Weasley.

Kamryn
- My Best Friends Girl
Kamryn has always been a part of Tegan’s life even from a distance. So when she is contacted by Adele after two years I don’t think that she was in any doubt about being Tegan’s mum. Outwardly she may have shown some but deep down she knew it was the right thing to do.

Aibeleen
- The Help
I know it’s a part of their jobs to care for the children but you can tell just how much these young children actually care for the help even if they grow up and be like their mothers. But I feel with Mae Mobley that she’ll turn out like Skeeter.

Miranda Priestley
- The Devil Wears Prada

She wouldn’t make mother of the year or anything but think about it, she is someone that a lot of people inspire to be like, but there is that one who is like a moody teenager in a strict family always pushing the boundaries but realizes as an adult she is alright really

Most Frustrating Characters

This should have been Rainy Day Reads for a Top 5 Wednesday, but I’d already done one similar not to long ago. So I looked through and decided on this post.

- Lara Jean
* To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
Lara Jean really frustrates me from the get go. Maybe it’s the whole teenager thing and I’m so far from being a teenager it’s not funny. But I swear as a teen we weren’t as bad a what Lara Jean was.

- Cornelius Fudge
* Harry Potter

He so badly didn’t want Dumbledore to have his job, yet he was fine with other people telling him how to be Minister of Magic that did want the job.

- All Characters
* City of Bones
I don’t know if it’s because I don’t get them or the premise of the book but I found the characters irritating

- Miss Hilly
* The Help
I know back in the 60’s when the book was set was a different time and that race issues have improved (not massively but it’s better then in the 60’s). Even though it makes the book to have a character that is disliked like miss Hilly is, but she annoys and frustrates me so badly because she is rude to her friends and those who work for her and every one who doesn’t

- Stephanie
* Goodnight, Beautiful
I don’t find her as frustrating as other characters and I love the book and it wouldn’t be the same without her character in it. But her actions towards Nova sometimes can be a little frustrating. I know Stephanie went through a lot and is with her mental health issues but sometimes she can be so frustrating

April Wrap Up

Books Read: This month I have read a grand total of 7 and half books
Book Challenge Complete % : I am 53% complete my book challenge.
Am I Ahead? And By How Many Books: I am ahead and by 7 books.

This month has been a crazy reading month. All the books I’ve read have been re reads apart from my DNF which is a newish book for me. The version of Matilda, The BFG and George’s Marvellous Medicine is one big book but I’ve put them down as three separate books.

- Looking For Alaska
With looking for Alaska I felt that it’s gone down in my opinion. I still love the book but felt that since I’ve first read it 5 years ago my taste in books have changed.

- The Ice Cream Girls
Still one of my favourite books in the whole world. I think it would be a great book to read in school or college for kids to understand the consequences that happen between a pupil/teacher relationship.

Channon Rose: Lessons Between The Lines
I honestly felt like I was in a little rut for a while between books so I decided to read a book that I knew I could read pretty quickly.

Matilda

The BFG

George’s Marvellous Medicine

One Day
In years to come I think that One Day will become a classic.

DNF
This month I did DNF a book. It was City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
