Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson | Review

Hey

and welcome back. Today I have another book review, this time on Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson. This is the first book that I have picked up by Morgan Matson, I have seen a lot of reviews by other people about how amazing the book is but I didnt want to pick it up right away because of how popular it is, and when I saw it on sale in the book store ( I think i got it as a 3 for $10 or 2 for $15 sale, I cant remember because it was on my shelf for a while)

It took me a while to get in to the book, I think I started and put it down three times before I actually finished the book. I got about 100-150 pages into the book at the furthest. So reading those pages I found it really hard to carry on. I found some of the book really bland in some spots and wanted to give up so many times

BUT....

I like how Solane had brought Emily out of her shell even when she isn't there. I like how there's playlists in this book. I know there is in Amy and Rogers a Epic Detour but I like how in this book the playlists are not overwhelming as it seems in Amy and Roger.

I also like how it's different to any other YA summer books in the fact that Emily has to complete a list.

Frank and Gideon have a great story line within the book. I like how these two are going after Emily because it seems that Solane is the one that people always go after and Emily is a little left behind. I must say that I like Gideon a little more then I like Frank.

I like the bond that Emily and her brother have. They seem to be close but not close enough that its seems over bearing. I would have liked to have seen more of her brother. I like how different the parents of Emily seem.

Solane life is one that I wouldnt want always driffting and going to different places. You can tell when she is telling Emily the story that she dosent like that she is always having to move and that she respects Emily's friendship over others she had before.

When Sam was first introduced into the book I had a feeling something would have gone wrong by the way he treated Emily before the incident.

What I did like about the book is how Emily has completely different friendship with Solane and Dawn. I like that both friendships are so different yet both friends bring something different out in Emily.

Mix #14
Mix 14 was brilliantly done. I wasn't expecting it at all.

Emily and Frank relationship
I had a feeling that they would end up together. Do I like it. I'm not sure if I actually liked the relationship between them. I think it was an obvious one.

The friendships in the book is really nice and well written and even though each person in the group bring something different each group fits really well. I like how the friendships all started and in some cases how they ended.

Each person in the book gave something that was unexpected and got in to the story well.

After reading the book I enjoyed it, it's a good summer read and what I have heard about other Morgan Matson books that's what's she is good at.

I gave it a 4* on goodreads because I felt as if some of the plot was obvious and you knew in advance what was going to happen. Such as I knew that Emily would go looking for Solane and that something between Emily and Frank would happen.
